A list of words and phrases used in recipes, and what they really mean

Word or Phrase Stand
What it means Some recipes ask you to leave something to stand. This means that you should leave it alone for however long the recipe tells you. Mixtures like dough need time to rest or expand, batters for pancakes are supposed to taste better if you let them stand for a while before using them.
